Private wealth · White Rock & Surrey

The family comes first. Then the capital. Then the plan.

We sit with Canadian families and decide what this wealth is for — a life, a business, a next generation — and how it will be held when markets, tax, and temperament all pull in different directions.

Who we are

Who we are

A practice that has sat with the same families for decades.

Karasick Crabtree & Murray is a private wealth practice in South Surrey. Lyle Karasick built it. Aaron Crabtree, Ryan Murray, and the people around this table carry it. We work inside IG Private Wealth Management — which means a local relationship, and a national bench when a tax year, an estate, or a business sale needs more than one room.

We partner with families to turn a portfolio into something that lasts: tax-aware, clear to the people you love, and generous where you want it to be. Wealth, used well, should fund a life — not keep score.

How we think

Families rarely lose a fortune to a market. They lose it to a decision made in the wrong mood.

A good plan is not only arithmetic. It is a way of protecting a family from the ordinary tricks of attention — the ones that feel like prudence in the moment, and look like a mistake a year later.

01

A loss is larger than a gain

A decline of two hundred thousand occupies more of the mind than a rise of the same number. That is not a character flaw. It is how attention works. We write the plan in a calm room so it is not rewritten in a loud one.

02

Last year is not a law

The most recent market feels like the truth. It is a season. Families who sold a business last year, or sat through 2020, often carry that weather into the next decision. We separate the story of the last statement from the job of this capital.

03

One household, not three piles

The cottage, the company, and the portfolio are often kept in different mental accounts. The tax authority already treats them as one family. So do we. A plan that ignores the operating company, or the cabin the children love, is only half a plan.

04

The decision you never revisit

The most expensive choice is often the one left standing from a decade ago. Looking every week makes a long book feel short. Never looking lets a quiet drift become a policy. We set a cadence — and we stay.

What we look after

Six rooms of a family’s financial life. One plan.

Independence

A life that no longer depends on a paycheque — and an income the tax year can live with.

Tax

Every decision has a tax shadow. We plan as if the CRA is already in the room, because it is.

The portfolio

A disciplined book, built with IG Wealth Management’s investment team and global partners — in the service of the plan, not the other way around.

Cash

Dry powder for a bad month and dry powder for a good opportunity. Flexibility is a strategy.

The business

What you built, who it goes to, and how a sale or a succession does not undo the family.

What you leave

Children, a trust, a cause. Clarity now is a kindness later.

How we work

We do not start with a recommendation.

We start with the family, then the household, then a written way of holding this capital. The conversation you are about to be invited into is that third step — only if you want to take it.

  1. 01

    We listen to the family

What this capital is for. Who it has to protect. What a good life actually costs. We start here, not with a product.

  2. 02

We look at the whole household

Earnings, cash that can move, the business, the estate, the tax year. Capacity is a fact. Preference is a feeling. Both belong in the room.

  3. 03

We write how this capital will be held

Not a pitch. A policy you can live with in a good year and a hard one — what it is for, when you will need it, and what you will still be holding when markets are ugly.

  4. 04

    We stay

Life changes. So do tax, family, and markets. The relationship is the work after the first meeting — adjusting before a quiet drift becomes a decision you did not mean to make.

We sold our business, our home, our recreational property and then retired. Their knowledge of tax implications in doing all of this was amazing. They even brought in an expert to review our financials.

Lyle and Aaron helped us plan for eventualities we hadn’t even considered. The addition of Ryan Murray has added a new generation of expertise — we have referred our adult children with confidence.

When you are ready

We begin by understanding this capital.

What it is for. When you will need it. What you will still be holding when the statement is ugly. No recommendation until that is clear — and a written investment policy when it is.
